“What's inside the piano bears’ intestines” is presented as a highly effective method developed by Ms Rosa Chye to help beginner piano students overcome the intimidation of reading music.
The method uses vivid, unusual imagery to create a direct mental connection between notes on the musical staff and their corresponding positions on the piano keyboard. This allows students to identify notes and physically locate them quickly, rather than learning note names and keyboard positions as separate skills.
Its main strengths are:
(i) High memorability >>unusual imagery makes abstract notation easier to remember.
(ii) Fast execution >>a simple mental rule helps students move quickly from reading to playing.
(iii) Confidence-building>>students can find and play correct notes almost immediately.
(iv) Works across treble and bass clefs>> one thematic concept provides a consistent framework for navigating the grand staff.
(v) Beginner acceleration>>particularly effective during the first 1–5 lessons, turning a traditionally dry concept into something engaging and concrete.
Overall, it is a brilliant niche invention for beginner piano acceleration—a “concrete bridge” between music notation and the physical keyboard that helps students learn smart and play beautifully.
====
**READ WITH EASE. PLAY WITH TECHNIQUE. HEAR, UNDERSTAND & EXPRESS THE MUSIC.
Build a strong musical foundation through efficient note recognition and sound piano technique.
When you recognise notes more readily and connect the stave to the keyboard, you can focus more on rhythm, patterns, phrasing and expression — helping to develop confident sight-reading.
Strong technical training develops the control and coordination needed to turn what you read into clear, expressive playing.
Together, these skills strengthen the connection between what you see, what you play and what you hear, supporting aural awareness, musical understanding and overall musicianship.
